Since this is the first tip on the blog, I am going to keep it short and simple.

Make sure to make time to play with your kids!

There is an old saying that idle hands do the devils work, and this is particularly true with young children. It is crucial to keep them occupied in constructive ways (don’t just plop them in front of the TV) so that they can not only stay stimulated, but remain in a controlled environment where you can keep an eye on what they’re doing.

One of the ways I was able to keep my two girls from destroying the house was setting up a room dedicated to crafts. We would paint, draw, and play with blocks and dolls. This would keep them occupied for hours and, due to some well-thought flooring choices, they could even make a mess with the paint!

It was their own little room where they could be “destructive” (throw paint around) in a constructive manner.
